5 cases of facial recognition which everybody is talking about in 2019


Facial recognition technology has been linked to the security sector, but there is a significant expansion to other sectors, such as retail, marketing, and health. In 2022, the global market for facial recognition technology is expected to generate an estimated revenue of $ 9.6 billion, with an annual growth rate of 21.3%, according to a new report published by Allied Market Research.

2- Facial recognition leads to three arrests in Rio de Janeiro


In Brazil, two people were arrested at the Maracana stadium. According to the military police, a woman was arrested in one of the accesses to the stadium. Against her, there was a warrant for search and seizure.


The second case happened near the statue of Bellini when a man was recognized by the camera system and arrested by the Military Police. Against him there was a search and seizure warrant.


A third case occurred in Copacabana, with the arrest of a woman near the Lifeguard Station 4. When the woman passed by the recognition cameras, the system was activated and mobilized the nearest police officers.


3- Blue Tree Hotels – Check-in and Check-out


Blue Tree Hotels recently announced the implementation of a web check-in system in their units. The tool, through the combination of big data and facial recognition, decreases by up to 85% the guest admission time by avoiding the accumulation of people in hotel receptions.

4- FaceDeals – Target Marketing


The Facedeals application aimed at targeting customers with special offers from companies they attend, integrating facial recognition to their Facebook profiles. Facial recognition cameras would be installed in the company’s entrance and recognize customers when they enter. Simultaneously, the customer would receive a notification of an offer for a smartphone-based on their Facebook like history.


5- AiCure – Medication adherence


Non-adherence to medication occurs when a patient stops taking their medicines as prescribed by their doctor. This is a major challenge since approximately 50% of patients receiving drug prescriptions are not properly following it in the US.


Created in 2010, AiCure IA is a company that uses facial recognition and computer vision technology to improve medication adherence practices. The software company driven algorithms are delivered through an application that can be accessed on mobile devices. The application has three main roles: identifying the patient, identifying the prescribed medicine and visually confirming whether the drug was ingested by the patient.

As companies continue to expand research efforts to prove the effectiveness of its facial recognition tools, implementation in the above-mentioned environments tends to increase.
